The Cookie Monster Invades Buehler Mayflower and Tries To Steal All of The Girl Scout Cookies!

Buehler Companies was appointed a very important task by the Girl Scouts this year. We were supposed to make sure that everyone in Colorado got the cookies on time and in good condition. When we suddenly saw this Cookie Monster in our warehouse!

He was creeping and crawling all around! I don't know how he managed to get into the warehouse, but he was obviously there for one thing!

As he began to rip open the pallets, it became apparently clear that we had a big problem on our hands. I'm sure he was in cookie heaven, but this is out of control! If we didn't do something about it, all of the Girl Scout cookies for Denver, Colorado would be gone!

He tried to make off with them by grabbing a pallet jack!

Then he even started to load all of the cookies onto a truck!

We knew we were in really big trouble when he actually got onto the forklift to grab more!

and in the end, we finally convinced him that all of the girls needed to sell these cookies and he did the right thing :)

Thanks Cookie Monster

Common Mistakes When Choosing A Moving Company

There is so much information about moving, that it can be hard to learn everything prior to choosing a moving company. How do you know if the moving company is legit? How do you know if they background check their employees? Who is really going to be in your house moving around your sentimental items?

There are so many questions flying around in your mind and the internet is full of information (both bad and good)

So I have compiled a list of the most common mistakes when choosing a moving company. Hopefully this will help our friends to make the right choice when choosing a moving company.

Check the BBB! You can never go wrong with the BBB as it is a wealth of information.

Check My Moving Reviews to make sure that the moving companies that you are planning to get estimates from have good reviews. Who better to ask than people who have used them?

Make sure that your moving company is part of the American Moving and Storage Association and even better is they are a partner of the American Moving Association For Consumer Protection.

If you are still unsure, pick up a MoversFax for $5.00 to check out the credentials. It could be the best $5.00 that you've ever spent.

Also, check out our Moving Hints and Tips page on some good advice on how to avoid scams.

Buy New Office Furniture or Move Your Used Office Furniture?

This morning I asked myself the question “What do our customers really want to know?” and I pondered this for a little while before I stopped Scott Luedke, the Vice President of Sales here at Buehler Companies as he was walking in the door.

I asked him the same question and he came back with an interesting answer. He said “With regard to office moving, most customers want to know if it is better to buy new furniture or move the old furniture and what is actually the most cost effective.”

That’s a good answer!

What is the better and most cost effective solution?

There are many different factors to answer this particular question actually.
It really depends on if you are downsizing your office or if you are moving into a bigger space. Every situation is different, so I will try to cover as much ground here as possible.

Here are some things that may be useful to think about before you purchase new office furniture. Some of these considerations may even help you to ask the right questions to see if moving your office furniture is the best decision or not.

If you are down sizing, then most of the time it will likely save you money to move the furniture that you already have. You already own it and if the systems furniture  is older, then most installers and electricians are typically familiar with it so you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to have it assembled.

It also depends on the space that you are moving into. Sometimes, you may not have enough room to assemble the stations in the same manner in which they currently are. We recommend that you accurately measure the space as well as all of the office furniture prior to moving anything.

  • Do a headcount – Make sure you know how many desks that you need to make.
  •  Talk with a professional. Some panels may connect universally and some may not. Be sure to speak with someone who knows prior to assuming everything will snap together like Lego’s.
  • Talk to the property manager at your new location to confirm if the cabling and data is already in the space or if you will have to have it installed. How the cable is ran may change your entire budget and may or may not work with how you want to configure your new offices.
  • Shop around – You may find some really high quality used office furniture at a real bargain price. The furniture may even possibly be better than what you currently have.
  • Consider your windows – This may sound strange, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t account for the windows in the new office space. I have seen many times where we moved in cubicles only for the overheads to cover up the window spaces and we had to come back out to reconfigure at a later time. All avoidable if window space is considered in the beginning.
  • Ask the property manager of your old building if they want to purchase the cubicles. Sometimes, the space you are moving out of is already nice and the space configuration of your current cubicles may entice the new tenant (if you don’t need the cubicles for your new space, that is.
  • Know what you have and understand what you actually need. You may be able to sell what systems furniture that you do have and then use the money to buy what you actually need. If you are moving from a space that has workstations into a space that does not need them because they are hard wall offices, this may be the perfect solution for you. Some companies will not only buy the furniture, but will also uninstall it and remove it for you.

If you are a growing company and you are moving into a larger space then it may actually be a better idea to buy new furniture because it’s going to be hard to match what you already have.

One really good thing to think about is your individual employees. Some of your employees may use more power than others or run one or two individual printers, label makers, etc… These particular employees may need more power ran to their station as opposed to others.

Thinking about these things will not only help you to potentially save some money, but also help you to build a better work area at your new location.

As always,

Server or Data Center Move? Hiring The Wrong Moving Company Can Cost You Millions of Dollars!

Did you know that hiring the wrong company to move your server room can cost you millions of dollars? We have talked about this before, but not really in depth like our customers deserve. So that is what prompted me to write this blog post today.

Server rooms are an intricate part of every company. It’s that room that only the IT people ever have the guts to venture into and most people don’t know exists unless their computer is slow or stopped working altogether.

IT people have enough to deal with on an everyday level. From the smallest question about where that file went that you swear you saved in your documents, to even the tougher questions like “My PC is smoking, was it something that I did?”

The last thing that your IT people want to deal with is moving the equipment. They already have to deal with reconnecting it and making sure that everything is operational and functioning on move day.

The reality is that you have to move server equipment when you move an office.

It may seem easy for everyone else involved in the move because they have desks and files on their mind whereas; IT people have a lot more things to consider like backing up the data, ensuring a secure connection at the new location. Making sure that the data cables are run to all the cubicles correctly and operational.
All of this is the key to success when moving a data center or a server room.

It’s easy for the top level executives to pick the cheapest moving company because they want to save some money on the move. We all understand that the bottom line to your company is at stake here, but what if the moving company that you choose to do the move isn't experienced?

Don’t run the risk of using a moving company that can potentially cause damage to your most expensive assets. Servers are imperative to running your company and without them, you are out of business. That’s a huge risk to take to save a little money on your move.

How do you know the right company to choose when you need to move your servers? Here are some questions and answers that can potentially save you millions of dollars in server equipment.

What you need to ask your moving company before you allow them to move your sensitive equipment:

Q. Do you hire 3rd party companies to disconnect and reconnect electrical equipment?

A. If a Moving Company says “Yes” to this, then they are out sourcing the work and may not be the best choice and this demonstrates that they may not have experience in handling this type of product.

Q. Do you have an insurance policy that you can provide on the value of my servers?

A. This is a really good question because some Moving Companies may have insurance, but they don’t always have a policy that can exceed a certain value. Always request that the moving company take out an individual policy for extraordinary value and provide proof of that policy.

Q. Is your Moving Company experienced at taking down various types of racking and re-installing that racking at destination?

A. If the moving company cannot disassemble and reassemble the racking for the servers, then you really shouldn't let them handle the actual servers. The racking is the simple part.

Q. Do you have security sealed trucks?

A. This is very important. When moving servers, you are handling a load that could exceed over a million dollars in assets. Trucks should be sealed with a security seal at origin and confirmed the seal is in tact at destination. Security should be a number one priority when it comes to moving such valuable items.

Q. Does your Moving Company have anti- static bubble wrap?

A. There is a big difference between regular bubble wrap and anti-static bubble wrap. It is always recommended that if you are moving servers that anti-static is used.

Q. What is the current state of your moving equipment?

A. The last thing that you want to have on a move like this is a moving company with faulty equipment. Machine carts should be in good order to prevent damages during the move.

These are just some of the questions that you should ask your moving company prior to selecting them to do a server or data center move. It’s important to feel comfortable with the moving company that you choose to handle these valuable items.

Hopefully this information will help you to select the right company for your next data center or server move.

Taking the research out of Moving! Property Managers, Tenants and Consumers - Get A MoversFax!

Are you a property management company that gets bogged down with requests on who you think people should use for a moving company? We understand that you have enough to do.

You have a list of moving companies that are on your “preferred vendors list” and it’s pretty easy to give a client that list without thinking about the overall consequences of not doing your homework.

Have you asked yourself if that list is current? Are these really reputable moving companies to recommend?
This is an extremely important question if you are putting your name and the value of your word on the line.
The truth is that over 50 percent of property managers are recommending moving companies that not only have a bad reputation, but also hire unqualified temporary labor.

This cannot only make you look bad, but it can result in property damage, an upset tenant and even a bad reputation for you (The Property Management Company)

You don’t have a lot of time to do research and we understand that. It’s already hard enough to deal with the everyday madness of managing a property.

We found a useful site called MoversFax that does all the homework for you! This is a really great resource for your property management company. For as little as $5.00, you can pull a report and get all of the facts in one simple document.

I know that this will really help a lot of consumers to not only feel more comfortable with the moving company they have chosen, but it also just takes the headache out of everything.

Buehler Companies wants you to feel good about your choices and we want you to have the best advice to pass to your new and old tenants. We also want to earn your recommendation and your good word.
That’s important to us! As a reputable moving company, we also want to protect consumers from Moving Scams and teach them how to make informed decisions before they give their most precious items to just any mover.

Stuart Smith, the owner of Buehler Companies actually sat down with Tom Martino to talk about this important subject matter. You can check the video out here on YouTube here - Avoiding Moving Scams.
We recommend that everyone watch this video before choosing moving companies to even go into your office or home to provide a free moving quote. You don’t want to let these people into your house or office before you know the skinny on them!

There are so many resources available to all consumers. Not just property managers. We want to educate our customers to the benefits of getting a MoversFax (Just like a CarFax) and paying the five dollars just for piece of mind. That’s less than the cost of a fancy latte!

Here is also a great video on Hiring A Reputable Moving Company. It’s your tenants stuff, it’s your personal stuff, it is important so hire the right people to do the job!
For more information, here are some links that we feel may be useful to you.

It’s not always about the Move, it’s about comfort and quality service!

We already know that moving is completely stressful. It’s easy to become aggravated and frustrated during the process. A lot of times, with moving, other life factors can be involved as well. Such as death, divorce and many other life changing events that already have your emotions in an uproar.

Change isn't easy and some people handle it differently than others. It is also pretty easy to take out your frustrations on others. We find that this happens a lot in our industry.

One of the things that we try to do here at Buehler Moving Companies is we try to understand that our customers have a lot on their mind. Things are changing for them. Life is changing and it’s not always about the move. Sometimes change can be positive for people and sometimes it can be a completely negative thing in their lives.

BuehlerMoving
I had a customer call in the other day and she was completely frustrated simply because the electric company didn't shut off her electricity on the day that she had planned. This may seem like a minor thing, but it made a bump in her plan and affected how she perceived everything else would go in the process.

This is the type of client that doesn't need you to fix anything for her, but wants you to listen, understand and reiterate that your intricate part of her plan is on schedule. That there aren't going to be anymore “bumps” in the road.

Why is this so important? The answer is simple… Comfort.

Once something goes wrong in a person’s ultimate plan, it’s pretty easy for them to be convinced that everything else is going to have domino effect into this great big giant mess. And a lot of people already feel that they are in a great big giant mess as it is. So when things start going wrong, it can cause emotions to rise even higher.

So some of the things that we try to do at Buehler Companies is to train our Customer Service staff to understand that just because we move everyday doesn't mean that our customers do. And just because we are used to trucks rolling and items being loaded and unloaded, doesn't mean that our customers find this to be a completely normal thing in everyday life.

Why is it so important to understand that first? Well, people are people and they are full of emotions. Sometimes children are involved. Sometimes it’s a hardship… we don’t know what’s going through the minds of our customers, so the first step is to simply understand that it’s not our place to know, but it is our place to understand that they are going through change.

Once we started implementing this training into our Customer Service department, it really opened a lot of eyes. We started talking about how we can be better people and how we can listen more and understand our customer’s needs more. Not just about their move, but also on an emotional level.

This is one of the things that we have done to raise the bar. We aren't even worried if our competitors read this post and implement the same understanding into their own Customer Service team.
Why? Because it’s isn’t about us. It’s about you. It’s about the people in the world that just need someone to hear and understand them while they go through the whole moving process.

In a meeting we talked about how we can sometimes get really busy and we may have 50 phone calls to make on a given day to check on how your packing is going or how your loading is going, did the crew arrive on time, etc…

On a daily basis, we come into work and we know what needs to be done, but are we just going through the repetitive motions of our jobs and forgetting to understand what we really do?

After asking that question, some of the staff opened up and thought about it. We agreed together that we can do more. We can slow down and we can ensure that not only are we making those calls, but we are adding a new level of value and quality to what it is that we actually do.

That makes us really proud to be in the Buehler Companies Customer Service Department.

After that meeting, there was a whole new level of quality in the air in the office. It really does make all of the difference.

Some of the tips and hints we wrote down for each other really helped us to become a better team as a whole. Everyone had different ideas and thoughts and after bringing it all together, this is what we came up with:

Stop and listen – When you feel like you've heard enough, listen more.

Understanding – Understand the situation, understand the customer, and understand that they are going through something that you may not understand.

Ask the customer what you can do to help them – Sometimes it’s not always about what we think is right for a person. Sometimes, they have the answer and they don’t need our professional option.

Resolution – Sometimes asking the customer “What do you feel will be a good resolution?” because it’s not outlandish to think that they know what a good way to resolve their issue. Sometimes the customer may even have a better answer than the professionals do.

And most importantly Are you, our customer, satisfied? Overall, in the whole scheme of things, are you happy? Can we do more to ensure that you are happy? Are you going to leave the phone conversation feeling better about things? Did WE do our job?

These things may not seem difficult, but they are of the utmost importance where our Customer Service Department is involved.

So after we discussed this and began to implement it into our Customer Service structure, we then moved onto other ways that we can be better in the department. We started doing weekly meetings to discuss topics such as quality, improvement, standards, phone etiquette and other things we felt were important to our customers.

One of the things that we focused on this week was how people perceive you. Do you talk to soft or too loud on the phone? Do people hear your voice and immediately feel like you are going to be helpful just by the sound of it?

Well, this was a really good thought because most of us didn't know how we sounded on the phone. So Vicky broke out the tape recorder and started taping! After listening to many of our phone calls and analyzing our voices, it came as a shock to hear ourselves back. This really opened our eyes to how others may perceive us.

It was very valuable and one of the things that makes her such an outstanding Customer Service Manager for our team. This is actually an exercise that Buehler Companies would recommend to any company, not just movers.

Once we heard our own voices, a lot of us decided that we were not only going to improve in that area, but we were going to stop and take the time to ensure that our tone of voice, demeanor and how people perceive us would be considered with every call.

Who notices this?

Well for one, our customers noticed this right away. One of the things that we have noticed is an increase in returned Customer Satisfaction Survey’s with outstanding reviews to our department.

The other thing that we noticed was an increase of emails from our customers that expressed appreciation. This not only made us feel more proud of what we are doing, but it reiterated the fact that our customers truly appreciated the added effort to make them feel at ease.

Now that’s pretty awesome if you ask me!

I actually didn't even think about writing this blog post until I received a call this morning from a customer who was upset because she thought the packers accidentally packed her paperwork that had the address where her Dog was supposed to stay during the move (Dog Kennel) and so I called our packing crew lead for the job and he knew immediately what I was talking about because it was really important to her. He advised me that he had placed the paperwork on the top of the fridge where it wouldn't get accidentally packed since he needed the counter space for the dishes he was packing.

Of course he had meant to tell her about it, but he got stuck into getting her kitchen packed and was focused on completing the job.

Let’s face it, these things happen sometimes. Most things like this are resolved fairly quickly. I stopped before I called her and I thought about our meeting and I made sure that it was clearly in my mind prior to calling her back.

It may seem like something small to me, but it was a huge thing to her. So when I made the call with a smile on my face and I told her what happened, she breathed out a huge sigh of relief and she couldn't have been more thankful to the lead packer who had thought of a place to put the paperwork where it wouldn't get packed. So all in all, what seemed originally like a negative thing at first was turned around to be a positive thing in the end.

So that made me think a lot about how each and every phone call that we make is equally as important as each and every move that we do.

I am glad to be a part of a team that takes such an initiative to improve and become a higher quality service provider for our customers. This is really what stands us out from our competition in the end. It’s not just about being a moving company and moving items for people, it’s really about the service that we offer and that says a lot.

Thanks for reading, we appreciate all of you. Remember, not only are we the way the world is moving, but we are the way the world should be handling customer service.

Project Management & Large Moves - Buehler Keeps You Organized!

Project Management can be pretty difficult and really time consuming. Especially if it’s not your only job and we both know that it probably isn't your only job. It still needs to be done and you have been appointed the task of “making it all happen”

That can be very stressful and can put a lot of pressure on a person. I understand that feeling all too well as I personally had to coordinate our internal office move and I work for a moving company!

Nevertheless, I still had all of the same stresses to make sure everything went well. I mean, we are a moving company after all and if our own personal move didn't go well, then that wouldn't be a good thing.

One of the things that made the job easier was a project management webpage that explained how to do everything. It was so easy to just send everyone a link to the site and answer questions later. There really weren't a lot of questions because the project management website pretty much explained everything in a very simple and easy to use way.

This is one of the great things about Buehler, we can really make your project so simple. The packing instructions, dates and times that things are going to happen and the overview links on the site really helped to keep everyone on track.

From delivery of totes (moving bins) to when the crews were scheduled to arrive, it was all in one place and employees weren't left with a ton of questions on when things were happening.

This is a really useful tool when you are moving large offices or if you have a real complex move. It really helped us out and we can do it for you!

We customize everything we do around your move.

We also have online photo storage options that allow you to see images of your inventory and pick items as they are needed for delivery! This is just another way that Buehler Companies defines quality. We are here to services our clients needs.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all regarding this incident.

Positive Moving Review For Buehler Moving Companies

We really love hearing good feedback from our customers. Thank you for such a positive review Jeff!

Jeni:

I want to offer my thanks and appreciation to all those involved at Buehler Moving and Storage regarding the recent move of the offices of The Greenway Foundation and The Foundation for Colorado State Parks.   Everyone involved at Buehler were complete professionals.   The move was scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and the entire crew was on site at 7:55 a.m.   The move was complicated, including several site locations and involved the careful packing of numerous unique items including some significant original art as well as the tear down of a large conference that was subsequently re-assembled at our new offices.   The attitude, attention and personal care of the crew was of the highest degree and, the entire move was completed prior to 12:30 p.m.

I endorse and recommend Buehler without reservation and would be happy to be placed on a reference list to speak with anyone who would like more details about our move.  While moving is never "fun", the crew at Buehler made it relaxed, efficient, and perfectly completed.   Please convey my appreciation to Kirk, Jay and all of those involved with the move of our offices.

Happy New Year!

Jeff Shoemaker, Executive Director
The Greenway Foundation
The Foundation for Colorado State Parks

We have taken the questions out of the equation! Our sales staff has been provided with a list of commonly asked moving questions so that they can answer everything up front before you move. This also helps our customers to feel informed. I believe that’s a win for everyone!

The crews are now being graded! We wanted to make sure that our moving crews were doing the best possible job for you that they can. So now, we are asking every customer to fill out a moving survey and let us know how we are doing. Your opinion matters more than anything to us and helps us to identify where we need to make improvements.

We have also implemented a new process for claims. Last year, we realized that we needed to have a process in place that not only made handling claims easier, but also to ensure that our customers are satisfied with how that claim was handled. So we hired Pam Fischer and she has made a major impact on claim resolution for our company. She handles each and every one of our customers with care and a professional manner. We are proud to have her on our team.

Our Social Networking has also increased. We are having a lot of fun on Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. A lot of people say “You are doing all of that for a Moving Company?” and the answer is yes! We care about our customers, online presence and helping people.

Every day, we are looking for new ways to help you though your moving process. We have been working on making hints and tips as well as checklists to get your though the process a lot smoother and with less of a headache.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all regarding this incident.
