1. Moving Companies should always offer you a written estimate. If you do not get your estimate in writing, please do not allow them to load your items onto a truck.
2. Movers may give binding estimates or non binding estimates. Make sure you know clearly what type of estimate that they are providing to you.
3. Make sure that you read everything in the contract before signing it. Understanding the charges on your move and the breakdown of services is a very key factor.
4. Talk to your moving company about your pick up and delivery options and date ranges. Choose a moving company that offers an option for you to track your shipment online.
5. Be sure that you understand your valuation options and what your moving company’s responsibility is with regard to loss or damage. Request an explanation of your options.
6. You have a right to be present when your shipment is weighed. Ask if your moving company will allow you to be there at the time of weighing. Reputable moving companies will always allow you to see the weighing or provide you with certified weight tickets.
7. When selecting your moving company, be sure to check out the BBB rating prior to signing any agreement. Reputable moving companies should have a good rating and a low complaint ratio.
Feel free to ask questions, it’s your personal items!
