The 6 Most Stressful Things About Moving

I asked some of the sales staff here at Buehler Moving on what they feel are some of the most stressful things that they believe that their customers are struggling with the most when they move. This was the answers that I received from them:

Price
Time
Kids and School
Pets
Quality
The Unknown

Now I am going to hit on each and every one of these things and then provide a simple solution to all of these key things that you can find to be stressful when you are moving.

First off, it’s always about price. Can I afford to move? Can I afford a moving company? What is it going to cost me? Am I being scammed by my moving company? All of these are questions that revolve around price and can really stress you out. It’s a lot to think about and stress over and we totally understand!

When it comes to price, always be sure to get a minimum of 3 moving estimates from 3 reputable moving companies. Then compare them, don’t just look at the estimate final amount. Examine all of the charges closely.

Perhaps one moving company included mattress bags for your beds and the other didn’t. Perhaps one moving company thinks that you have 6,000 pounds and the other company thinks that you have 4,000 pounds. Perhaps one moving company included valuation on your move and another company didn’t. Valuation is EXTREMELY important and I explain it a little more in depth in my post called “Moving Damage – What Moving Companies Legally Have To Offer You Before You Move.” All of these little things change the price of your move.

Explore your estimates and if one company isn’t offering you all of the services that another company is offering you, then of course there will be a difference in price on the final amount.

Remember, it’s fair to say that if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. You should never go with a really low ball quote because you do not want them charging you additional money upon delivery. Check out what the BBB has to say about moving.

Ask questions and don’t be afraid to ask your moving companies to revise their quote based on the services they may not have originally included in their price.

Also, always make sure that you get a fixed price bid. This protects you from the moving company trying to charge you additional money above and beyond the quoted amount.

Moving With Cats & Dogs??? Your Pet Relocation Resource All In One Place!

This is Denali, She is my very best friend. When I moved, I really could have used some help with relocating her too. That's why I made this guide on moving with pets. I figured that I am not the only person out there that wants my pet to be handled with the utmost care.


Moving with cats and dogs can sometimes stress you out. We all know that it’s already hard enough to move as it is. Your animals can be your best friend, but how do you transport them across the country without having to drive all that way?

We have a few really good resources to help you out with that. They can go by air transport or vehicle whichever you prefer)

Check out Animal Land, they will assign you a personal moving counselor who will manage all of the aspects of your pets move with care.

They will move dogs or cats and even other animals and they are pretty affordable as well. They arrange all of the flight details, shots if you are going to another country, etc…

There really isn’t a need to be stressed out if you are moving with pets. Don’t drive across the country when you have other options that are available.

Another good resource is Animal Air. They are a really good pet relocation company for pets and they really make it easy. They also go international and take care of all the details for the pickup and transport of your pets. They even offer veterinary services, microchip identification, blood sampling if you are going overseas, etc…

Another resource for you is Capital Pet Movers. They are a travel agent for your pet and they offer ground transportation, flight arrangements, kenneling and the whole nine yards.

These are just some of the options for moving with your pets and some really good recommended resources. If they don’t work out, then try some of the links below. I am sure that you will find a company that can work within your budget and provide you with excellent service and reduce your stress level.

Moving Damage - What Moving Companies Legally Have To Offer You Before You Move


Is your Moving Company confusing you on how they handle damages to your move? Today, we would like to talk about how important that it is to understand your valuation coverage options and what they really mean to you, the consumer.
None of us like to talk about damage, but let’s get real. It happens. Not every move is perfect and there are some things that can possibly get broken in ANY move and with ANY Moving Company.

Although every consumer wants perfection (of course) - understanding your options up front will actually help you to make the right decision on damages before your move even begins.
What is valuation anyway?

Good question. Let’s think about how you pay for car insurance. You choose a plan, it may or may not have a deductible and you pay monthly for that plan in case of an accident. If there is an accident, you pay your deductible, file a claim, get a repair person to look at your vehicle (or your insurance company assigns one), submit the estimate to the insurance company and they send you a check or have your car repaired, etc…
Well, valuation is similar to car insurance, only its called valuation.

The reason Moving Companies use this term is simply because we are not providing you with insurance. We are not charging you monthly to insure your items.
Valuation is the process of estimating what something is worth in value. Because the Moving Companies did not purchase your items and do not know the value of your items, we have to allow the consumer (you) to tell us how much that you think that your items are worth. This is what we call “Declared Value”

Now that we understand what valuation means, what is your Moving Company legally entitled to offer you?
Well, legally Moving Companies are required to offer you a minimum of $.60 cents per pound per article or the actual value of the article (whichever is less) at no cost to you. This is the basic coverage (Legal Liability) and it’s not much.
Basically, if you have a desk that weighs 200 pounds that gets damaged in the move, then your Moving Company will issue you a check for $120.00 or have the item repaired (whichever is less)
They have too. It's the law.
However, your Moving Company also (LEGALLY) has to offer you another option. If your moving company is not talking to you about your valuation options, then they may not be a legitimate company to be working with.
What are your other options?

Your Moving Company should also offer you full valuation. This option allows you to declare the total value of all your items prior to your move. Full value means the total replacement value of your goods. You cannot elect this option after your move is completed (Only before) and there is a cost associated with this option (just like paying for insurance)
Full valuation means that the Moving Company will have the option of repairing any damaged items or replacing  the items at an equal value to the actual retail value of the item (whichever is less) and they have the option to salvage the broken or damaged item in replacement of the new item.

The cost for full valuation depends on the amount that you declare on the total value of your goods. Always check with your Moving Company for pricing on full valuation before your move. Don’t forget to ask about the deductible options!
Protect yourself and your belongings before you choose your moving company. We hope this helps to clarify what your moving company is legally responsible to offer you before you move.

Why Choosing A Small Moving Company Can Actually Cost You More Money With Less Quality!

 It’s pretty simple to think that choosing a smaller moving company means that you are going to get a better rate on moving services. Many people are concerned about the expense of moving. They want a good service provider with good insurance options and a company that has a lot of quality, but they don’t want it to break the bank either.

I have been in this industry for 15 years and you would be surprised how many times that I have heard “Wow! Your prices are better than the smaller moving companies” why is that?

Well, one thing that consumers should remember is that just because a moving company is associated with a big brand name like United Van Lines or Mayflower Transit, doesn't actually mean that they are not a small moving company.

Most movers are “agents” of a van line. Agents are a network of small moving companies that all work together for the better good of servicing your move. There are 4 intricate parts to moving and I am going to break down each one for you.

The Booking Agent – The booking agent is the agent of the van line (moving company) that actually booked or sold you the move. This agent may or may not be the origin agent, hauling agent or the destination agent. The moving company that books your move only gets a small percentage of the actual money that you pay for your total moving services. The booking agent controls the customer service, coordination, tracking and servicing of all the moving parts and agents involved in your move.

The Origin Agent – The origin agent assumes responsibility of packing, protecting the shipment at the origin location and they are a local based company that is right in your area of the home that you are moving out of. This agent takes care of everything at the starting point. If you need cartons, they will deliver them from the local moving company.

The Hauling Agent – Once your order is registered into the system, all of the long distance dispatchers all over America look at it to see where the nearest driver is that has enough room for your items and is headed in the direction of which you are going. The hauling agent is a small moving company that has a  interstate long haul driver. The driver will pick up your shipment within the loading time frame and make the delivery to final destination.

The Destination Agent – Sometimes moving companies are hired to unpack and remove cartons from your home or perhaps you would even like maid service. The destination agent is a small moving company within the network that will provide this service at the final destination.

All of these various entities work within the same network and invoice the network to produce one final bill for you final moving expense. All of these small moving companies are paid a percentage of the total amount of money that you spent on your move.

So now that I have explained the process to you, it’s pretty simple to realize  that even though these large brand name moving companies associated with a big brand name van lines seem HUGE, they are actually all small moving companies that are just trying to earn your business.

So the moral of the story, get quotes from any moving company. Try out the bigger ones as well as the smaller ones because you may be surprised if their rates are lower than the small “mom and pop” moving companies. 

They also have better insurance, more detailed background and drug testing on moving crews, they provide more jobs to the local public and are less likely to be a scam or rouge mover that is just out for your money.

How To Pack, Wrap & Palletize Expensive Servers and Electronic Equipment


It’s one thing to say that you know how to properly package and handle very expensive electronics and server equipment, but has your moving company showed you how they do it?

I am one of those kind of people that likes to see what sort of work people do before I hire them. That’s why I’ve decided to show you how our moving crews handle this type of equipment.

First, here is a basic list of some of the equipment that I am talking about and how to move it safely and securely.

Servers and Racks
Computers
CPU’s and Monitors
Electronics
Telecom Equipment
Medical Equipment
Flat Screen TV’s

And basically anything that has wiring within it or is sensitive when moved. So now that we know the type of items that I am talking about, would you like to know how your moving company is handling it?

These type of items are extremely expensive so I want to know!

First, we take anti static bubble wrap and wrap each item individually.
 

Then, we place them securely into a box with paper padding all around for extra security.

 

We place the cartons onto a pallet, shrink wrap and securely band the items onto the pallet so that it can be moved with a forklift or a pallet jack with ease.

Household Items That You Didn't Know You Were Packing Incorrectly

You would be surprised at how many people actually pack their items the wrong way when they are moving. Packing items the incorrect way can cause damages and make items a lot harder to move. This is why I have composed a list of packing tips that will help you to properly package certain items in your home. If you have questions about packing certain items that aren’t on this list, just give us a call and we will be glad to talk to you.

Washing Machines and Dryers – Most people don’t know that they should have their washer and dryer serviced the day prior to their move. The washer needs to be drained of excess water so that it is not as heavy to lift and move. Also, the inside of your washing machine has a drum that needs to be secured prior to moving. If it’s not properly secured, then the drum can actually get damaged and the spin cycle on the machine may no longer work. We have a tip for those of you who cannot afford to pay a moving company to service your appliances. Completely drain the hoses in the washer and fill the drum with a large comforter to keep it in place if you are moving it yourself.

As for the dryer, it depends if it is electric or a gas dryer. As always with gas, we highly recommend only using a professional to disconnect it. A hint for electric dryers is to check the cord prongs and be sure that the plug will actually work in your new home. If it can’t, there is a way to simply change the cord to the machine rather than having to buy a new dryer for the new home. We can have a company come out to do this for you at a reasonable cost if you are not a handy man.

Books – Most people don’t realize that books seem lightweight, but when you put them all into a box, they can get extremely heavy. We recommend packing blankets, pillows, linens and lightweight items into larger boxes and packing books into smaller cartons. This will make them easier to carry and you won’t break your back.

Refrigerators – Some refrigerators have ice makers which should properly be disconnected prior to moving. The water line needs to be drained and capped off so that you do not experience a terrible leak and possible property damage later on. We can help you to have your refrigerator disconnected and drained at a really decent cost or you can hire a professional yourself. Also, a great idea to keep your refrigerator smelling nice and clean while it’s being moved is to take a coffee filter, fill it with coffee and tie it off. When you place it into the fridge, it will help to eliminate foul smells and keep the air inside the fridge from getting stale while it is being moved. And never forget that you cannot lay a refrigerator down while in transit. All refrigerators must be moved standing upright.

Fine China and Breakables – It’s already scary enough to have to move your fine china and breakable items. Starting with plates, a great idea is to buy paper plates to put in between the plates prior to wrapping them. This gives the plates just another layer of protection. Always remember to pack glass items as tight as possible so there isn't shifting in the boxes that can cause damage. If you have really breakable vases or glassware, you may even want to look at getting some micro foam to wrap those items in. Micro foam works very well and can save you a lot of money by protecting your rare and valuable glassware.

Grandfather Clocks – We have talked about this before, but why not bring it up again in case you missed it?! A long time ago in our industry, we used to require that all Grandfather Clocks were crated. While this is still true if you are moving across the country, it may not pertain to you if you are moving down the road. With new technology and new carton options, we now have Grandfather Clock boxes that work very well at protecting your grandfather clock during the move. You don’t have to pay additional money to crate your clock. We still recommend that you have the pendulums removed and packed separately than the clock. We also recommend micro foam wrapping on the glass edges if your clock has them.

Jewelry and Coin Collections – When it comes to your expensive jewelry, we always recommend that you move it yourself. A lot of jewelry is priceless and sentimental and yours is probably no exception. If you do have to pack it, I recommend that you pack it into a lock box where the keys are only available to you. Same with coin collections or any other type of collectible item that you do not want to get lost.

Packing your Kitchen – There are a lot of items in your kitchen that you may not have the original cartons for. Cartons come in many shapes and sizes, but we always recommend that you use dish packs. Dish packs are double cardboard boxes that work really well for kitchen items and they can hold a really good amount of items in them. They are strong and durable and really make packing your kitchen easy. As always, we recommend that you use white packing paper instead of newspaper as it can leave ink marks on your dishes and they will have to be rewashed again at destination. Always keep your knives in a plastic container so they do not puncture a box and hurt anyone during the moving process.

Guns and Ammunition – While most people choose to move their own guns and, we do offer to move them as long as certain information is obtained prior to packing  or moving them. Unfortunately, we cannot move ammunition. Most gun owners have cases for their guns, but if you do not and you would like to know how to properly package them for transport, you can feel free to give us a call. Packing guns vastly depends on the type, make and model of the firearm to better understand the needs of that particular item.

Artwork and Mirrors – It’s something that a lot of people don’t consider until the last minute, but moving mirrors (especially large mirrors) and artwork (especially high value artwork) should always be considered in your move and pre-planned. We recommend using mirror cartons for artwork and glass and these nifty cartons fit almost any size. They offer extra double cardboard protection as well as protecting the corners of your mirrors. If you have a really large mirror and you are moving across the country or across the state, we may recommend crating it depending on the value and size. Mirror cartons can save you a lot of money on crating.

High Value Items and Electronics – Did you get one of those giant flat screen TV’s recently? They look great mounted on your wall! Did you keep the original carton that it came in? Most people don’t. So if you need to pack one of these, then ask us about our TV cartons! These really make moving your flat screen easy. We also have cartons for other electronics, DVD players, speakers and much more. We recommend using anti static bubble wrap and/or shrink wrap when you are prepping these types of items to be moved. Static is not good for electronics and can possibly cause damage.

Lawnmowers – Moving Companies can move lawnmowers of any shape or size. We actually just recommend that you take the gasoline and oil out of them so they do not leak fluid or combust. Once that is done, they are basically prepared to be moved. Of course, if you have a grass catcher, you may want to empty it first.

BBQ Grills – Most people own them and when you are in a mad rush to start packing your house; BBQ grills are often left in the dark until it’s too late. You will want to clean out your grill and make arrangements for transport of the propane tank. Most Moving Companies will not transport the propane.

Printers – Did you know that if you forget to remove the toner out of your printer that it can ruin the internal components of the machine? Be sure to remove the toner before you move your printer.

Leather Couches and Chairs – Did you know that because leather is made out of hide that it actually breathes? That being said, you shouldn’t wrap your leather furniture in shrink wrap without padding it first. If your moving company does not put pads around your leather items, stop them immediately. Your leather can sweat under the plastic and the moisture can ruin your beautiful leather furniture.

Parts Box – One of the most useful ideas to utilize when you are packing your home is a parts box. This box should be clearly marked so it can be easily identified. In this box you should put your TV remotes, cables, phone cords, parts to bookshelves, cabinets, etc… This way all of your parts are all in one place for an easier assembly at a later time.

Clothing – This may sound crazy, but you can save money on wardrobe boxes by gathering the clothes and using trash bags to tie the hung clothes together at the top of the hangers. Otherwise, wardrobe cartons can definitely be provided for easy moving.

Mattresses – Protect your mattress! We have either mattress boxes or mattress bags. These really help to keep your mattress clean while you are moving.

10 Tips On How Make Your Move Smoother

10 Things That You Can Do To Make Your Move Less Stressful

At Buehler Companies, we understand that moving your house is stressful. There are many things that you have to remember to do. We want to help you make your moving process a whole lot easier.
So I asked our Sales staff to supply a list of things that would help to smooth out your move and they cracked their heads together and this is what we came up with for you.

We hope that it helps to ensure that your move is as successful as possible.

       Schedule your move early – It may seem as simple as calling a moving company and picking a day right? What happens if you delay and the moving company can’t accommodate? It is very important to schedule your move as soon as you have a date. It’s a lot easier to cancel a move than it is to try to scramble to find moving companies that can help you at the last minute.

       Avoid moving Thursday, Friday or Saturday if possible – These days can be the busiest days of the month and you will likely get a higher rate if the moving company is at capacity.

       Be Flexible – If you are flexible with start times, end times and over all moving dates, then you will find that your moving company can complete the work necessary and more efficiently.

       Discuss Delivery Spreads – In this industry, weather and traffic can affect when your items will be delivered. Guaranteed delivery dates create more service failures than positive moving experiences. Ask your moving company to call you at least 24 hours prior to delivery to let you know that they are on the way. Also, you should hire a moving company that offers a tracking system to track your shipment while it’s in transit.

      Keep personal valuables with you – If you have coin collections, jewelry or items that are priceless, just keep those with you at all times. If you can’t take these items with you, then be sure to purchase valuation coverage on your move and fill out a high value inventory form. If your moving company does not offer you a high value inventory form, then you probably shouldn't use that company.

       De-clutter prior to your move – Most moving estimates are based on volume and weight of your shipment. Save yourself some money by having a garage sell instead of paying to have it moved.

      Avoid making travel plans on the day of your move – You never know what is going to happen on your moving day. Avoid having to rush to an airport at the last minute and plan to be at your home during the move if at all possible.

       Cone off the parking area – A truck is coming, help the movers out by making sure there is a place for them to park. This can also save you money if you are paying the movers by the hour.

       Kennel your pets – There is a lot going on during move day and we don’t want to loose your furry friends! Keep them in a safe place during the moving process with food and water.

Keep your phone turned on until the day of your move – Sometimes the movers get lost and may need to call for directions or clarification on your move. Keeping your phone on and being able to communicate is essential.

Questions That You Should Ask Your Moving Company BEFORE you move


A long time ago Moving Companies used to do everything by hand. All of our estimates and quotes were hand written and Federal Guidelines came in the form of a giant book that we would have to waft through to find pricing in certain states and areas. A lot has changed since then.

I have been in the industry for 14 years. I go back to the time when the interstate Tariff for moving companies was 400M and you could discount up to a certain percent off the numbers. There was a time when every Moving Company had to charge for stair carry’s and long carries and your sales person would be at your house measuring the sidewalk.

It’s amazing to say in the least how far we have come in the moving industry. This booklet is required by Federal law for all moving companies to provide to you before your move. The Cookie Monster Invades Buehler Mayflower and Tries To Steal All of The Girl Scout Cookies!


Buehler Companies was appointed a very important task by the Girl Scouts this year. We were supposed to make sure that everyone in Colorado got the cookies on time and in good condition. When we suddenly saw this Cookie Monster in our warehouse!


He was creeping and crawling all around! I don't know how he managed to get into the warehouse, but he was obviously there for one thing!


As he began to rip open the pallets, it became apparently clear that we had a big problem on our hands. I'm sure he was in cookie heaven, but this is out of control! If we didn't do something about it, all of the Girl Scout cookies for Denver, Colorado would be gone!

He tried to make off with them by grabbing a pallet jack!


Then he even started to load all of the cookies onto a truck! 


We knew we were in really big trouble when he actually got onto the forklift to grab more!


and in the end, we finally convinced him that all of the girls needed to sell these cookies and he did the right thing :)

There is so much information about moving, that it can be hard to learn everything prior to choosing a moving company. How do you know if the moving company is legit? How do you know if they background check their employees? Who is really going to be in your house moving around your sentimental items?

There are so many questions flying around in your mind and the internet is full of information (both bad and good)

So I have compiled a list of the most common mistakes when choosing a moving company. Hopefully this will help our friends to make the right choice when choosing a moving company.

Check the BBB! You can never go wrong with the BBB as it is a wealth of information.

Check My Moving Reviews to make sure that the moving companies that you are planning to get estimates from have good reviews. Who better to ask than people who have used them?

Make sure that your moving company is part of the American Moving and Storage Association and even better is they are a partner of the American Moving Association For Consumer Protection.

Buy New Office Furniture or Move Your Used Office Furniture?

This morning I asked myself the question “What do our customers really want to know?” and I pondered this for a little while before I stopped Scott Luedke, the Vice President of Sales here at Buehler Companies as he was walking in the door.

I asked him the same question and he came back with an interesting answer. He said “With regard to office moving, most customers want to know if it is better to buy new furniture or move the old furniture and what is actually the most cost effective.”

That’s a good answer!

What is the better and most cost effective solution?

There are many different factors to answer this particular question actually.
It really depends on if you are downsizing your office or if you are moving into a bigger space. Every situation is different, so I will try to cover as much ground here as possible.

 Here are some things that may be useful to think about before you purchase new office furniture. Some of these considerations may even help you to ask the right questions to see if moving your office furniture is the best decision or not.

If you are down sizing, then most of the time it will likely save you money to move the furniture that you already have. You already own it and if the systems furniture  is older, then most installers and electricians are typically familiar with it so you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to have it assembled.

It also depends on the space that you are moving into. Sometimes, you may not have enough room to assemble the stations in the same manner in which they currently are. We recommend that you accurately measure the space as well as all of the office furniture prior to moving anything.

  • Do a headcount – Make sure you know how many desks that you need to make.
  •  Talk with a professional. Some panels may connect universally and some may not. Be sure to speak with someone who knows prior to assuming everything will snap together like Lego’s.
  • Talk to the property manager at your new location to confirm if the cabling and data is already in the space or if you will have to have it installed. How the cable is ran may change your entire budget and may or may not work with how you want to configure your new offices.
  • Shop around – You may find some really high quality used office furniture at a real bargain price. The furniture may even possibly be better than what you currently have.
  • Consider your windows – This may sound strange, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t account for the windows in the new office space. I have seen many times where we moved in cubicles only for the overheads to cover up the window spaces and we had to come back out to reconfigure at a later time. All avoidable if window space is considered in the beginning.
  • Ask the property manager of your old building if they want to purchase the cubicles. Sometimes, the space you are moving out of is already nice and the space configuration of your current cubicles may entice the new tenant (if you don’t need the cubicles for your new space, that is. 
  • Know what you have and understand what you actually need. You may be able to sell what systems furniture that you do have and then use the money to buy what you actually need. If you are moving from a space that has workstations into a space that does not need them because they are hard wall offices, this may be the perfect solution for you. Some companies will not only buy the furniture, but will also uninstall it and remove it for you.

If you are a growing company and you are moving into a larger space then it may actually be a better idea to buy new furniture because it’s going to be hard to match what you already have.

One really good thing to think about is your individual employees. Some of your employees may use more power than others or run one or two individual printers, label makers, etc… These particular employees may need more power ran to their station as opposed to others.

Thinking about these things will not only help you to potentially save some money, but also help you to build a better work area at your new location.

Server or Data Center Move? Hiring The Wrong Moving Company Can Cost You Millions of Dollars!

Did you know that hiring the wrong company to move your server room can cost you millions of dollars? We have talked about this before, but not really in depth like our customers deserve. So that is what prompted me to write this blog post today.



Server rooms are an intricate part of every company. It’s that room that only the IT people ever have the guts to venture into and most people don’t know exists unless their computer is slow or stopped working altogether.

IT people have enough to deal with on an everyday level. From the smallest question about where that file went that you swear you saved in your documents, to even the tougher questions like “My PC is smoking, was it something that I did?”

The last thing that your IT people want to deal with is moving the equipment. They already have to deal with reconnecting it and making sure that everything is operational and functioning on move day.

The reality is that you have to move server equipment when you move an office.

It may seem easy for everyone else involved in the move because they have desks and files on their mind whereas; IT people have a lot more things to consider like backing up the data, ensuring a secure connection at the new location. Making sure that the data cables are run to all the cubicles correctly and operational.
All of this is the key to success when moving a data center or a server room.

It’s easy for the top level executives to pick the cheapest moving company because they want to save some money on the move. We all understand that the bottom line to your company is at stake here, but what if the moving company that you choose to do the move isn't experienced?

Don’t run the risk of using a moving company that can potentially cause damage to your most expensive assets. Servers are imperative to running your company and without them, you are out of business. That’s a huge risk to take to save a little money on your move.

How do you know the right company to choose when you need to move your servers? Here are some questions and answers that can potentially save you millions of dollars in server equipment.


What you need to ask your moving company before you allow them to move your sensitive equipment:

Q. Do you hire 3rd party companies to disconnect and reconnect electrical equipment?

A. If a Moving Company says “Yes” to this, then they are out sourcing the work and may not be the best choice and this demonstrates that they may not have experience in handling this type of product.

Q. Do you have an insurance policy that you can provide on the value of my servers?

A. This is a really good question because some Moving Companies may have insurance, but they don’t always have a policy that can exceed a certain value. Always request that the moving company take out an individual policy for extraordinary value and provide proof of that policy.

Q. Is your Moving Company experienced at taking down various types of racking and re-installing that racking at destination?

A. If the moving company cannot disassemble and reassemble the racking for the servers, then you really shouldn't let them handle the actual servers. The racking is the simple part.

Q. Do you have security sealed trucks?

A. This is very important. When moving servers, you are handling a load that could exceed over a million dollars in assets. Trucks should be sealed with a security seal at origin and confirmed the seal is in tact at destination. Security should be a number one priority when it comes to moving such valuable items.

Q. Does your Moving Company have anti- static bubble wrap?

A. There is a big difference between regular bubble wrap and anti-static bubble wrap. It is always recommended that if you are moving servers that anti-static is used.

Q. What is the current state of your moving equipment?

A. The last thing that you want to have on a move like this is a moving company with faulty equipment. Machine carts should be in good order to prevent damages during the move.

These are just some of the questions that you should ask your moving company prior to selecting them to do a server or data center move. It’s important to feel comfortable with the moving company that you choose to handle these valuable items.
