“Moving Memories” A New Future For Colorado’s PastSaturday, May 22, 6:30 p.m. on KUSA 9News
Tune into KUSA-NBC on Saturday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. for a very special half hour program with 9News anchorman Gary Shapiro and photojournalist Manny Sotelo, who take you behind the scenes of the mind-boggling move of the Colorado History Museum.
It’s moving to a new building, called the History Colorado Center, one block south of its current 13th and Broadway location in Denver. But since the new museum won’t open until 2012, millions of pieces of Colorado history must be moved to warehouses in the interim. Each piece was hand packed into boxes and crates with extreme care. Everything from ancient Native American pottery to President Eisenhower’s military uniform.
The History Colorado Center will provide a place where learning about our past can help us imagine our future, and will feature more exhibit space, more educational programs and more chances for visitors to learn the stories of the people who shaped this state. Segments of
“Moving Memories" will be repeated on 9News 6 a.m. broadcast May 25-28. On Friday, May 28, Ed Nichols, President and CEO of History Colorado, will sit down with Gary Shapiro live at 7:30 a.m. and discuss the move both physically and ideologically from Colorado History Museum to the History Colorado Center and what it means for Coloradans.
