Choosing the right Moving Company can be
pretty difficult. You are going to put all of your belongings into the hands of
a complete stranger. How do you know who to trust? Here is a list of what you
need to ask your moving company before you hire them!
Ask if the moving companies crews
are background checked and if they can send you a copy of the standards.
If a moving company cannot provide you with a copy of the
background check standards, then they shouldn't be trusted. If they do not have
standards in place, then the chances are that they do not background check any
of their crews.
Ask your moving company if they hire temporary labor. We all
know that it’s busy in the summertime, but that is no excuse for hiring
temporary labor that isn't qualified to handle your items!
Ask your moving
company about their coverage options. If they do not offer you coverage for
your items while they are handling your items, do not choose them to move your
items. A reputable moving company should be able to at least offer you the
option of purchasing coverage.
Ask the moving company how long they have been in business.
There are a lot of moving scams out there! Do not trust just any mover. Check
out our Moving Tips
Page on moving scams.
Check out all of your Moving Companies on the BBB! If
they do not have a good rating, or if they have no rating at all on the BBB, then
it is highly advised that you do not use them to do your move. Here is an
example of Buehler Companies A+
BBB Rating !
Ask your moving companies if they have heard of the other
moving companies on your list! This seems strange, but if the known moving
companies haven’t heard of the moving company you bring up, then you should not
use that company! Most moving companies know their competitors.
Ask your moving company if they are AMSA certified! If they
are a good reputable moving company,
then they should have the credentials to back up their claim.
Remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably
is!!! Don’t always go with the lowest rate, it could be a scam or an unethical moving company that could hold your
belongings on the truck and demand additional money from you before giving your
items back.
Ask Ask Ask! Ask your friends and family what moving
companies they know of. Ask them if they have ever used any moving companies
for their moves. Ask them if they have seen the moving company operate.
Doing these simple steps can save you a huge headache in the
end. When you choose a moving company, choose quality.
