Does moving a library require more trucks?
A:
Yes. Moving a library and keeping it in complete order does take additional truck because library carts (bookshelves) require more room than cartons or boxes. However, paying for additional trucks will essentially be a lot more cost effective in the end rather than paying your employees to pack and unpack books.

There are some of the most commonly asked questions when it
comes to library moves. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to
contact us!
Here is a checklist on how you can prepare for your next
library move. This will help you to save time and money!
Make sure that all of the books are placed on the shelves
prior to the moving company arriving on site. Loose books can cause a mix up at
destination.
Make sure that you have a floor plan of the new building and
have discussed the layout of the new library with your moving company.
Take photos of the entire library so that if there are
questions on how things were laid out at the origin building, you can use the
photos for reference.
Get with the property management of the buildings to make
sure that your move date is scheduled and reserve elevators, etc…
Measure the floor space at both origin and destination buildings
and discuss with your moving company on the height of the shelves, placement
and review to be sure there is room to place everything in the new building
prior to moving all items.
Rather than doing and extensive inventory, have your moving company count the library
carts at origin and again at destination instead. This makes everything go
faster which will ultimately save you time.
Ask your moving
company if their equipment is in good order. Faulty equipment can cost you time
and money.
Label all rooms at destination and staging areas completely
to avoid causing confusion.
We hope that some of these ideas will help you to save time
and money on your move. We are glad to answer additional questions if you have
any. Give us a shout at 303-388-4000
